SPRING INTO ACTION LAKELANDS OLIVES RELEASE 2005 HARVEST
OILS
It’s Spring, the traditional
time for the release of new season Australian extra virgin
olive oils. One of the first to appear on the market is the
biodynamic organic certified Extra Virgin Lakelands
Olives Frantoio 2005 from Clandulla near Rylstone in the
Central Ranges of New South Wales.
Proprietor Knut Kammann is
passionate about the potential of his 220-hectare biodynamic
organic 4000-tree olive grove which is planted on
undulating high altitude slopes (700m) where the cool
climate and short growing season is ideally suited to olive
cultivation, especially to Tuscan origin varieties.
The Lakelands Olives
Frantoio 2005 is the flagship oil from the estate’s
seventh harvest. It displays fresh grassy aromas with
fragrant fruit notes and elegant olive fruit flavour on the
palate, balanced by a gentle, lingering spicy finish.
Lakelands Olives single
variety EVOO oils have won three consecutive national
Australian trophies, and are regarded as the country’s
finest quality olive oils, rivalling the best in the world.
'Our olive oils have a
special pungency and purity,’ claims Knut Kammann, who
attributes these characters to the grove’s pristine
location, and the rigorous organic and biodynamic
cultivation methods.
The 2005 Lakelands Olives
harvest saw the commissioning of a state-of-the-art Alfa
Laval Oliver 500 press and Australia’s first ever de-pitter
machine, designed to remove the olive pits prior to
processing.
‘The new processing line
performed well and this year’s oils show enhanced flavour
intensity, less bitterness and a finer balance,’ explains
Knut.
The Lakelands Olives EVOO
Frantoio 2005 is available from selected stockists
nationally in 250ml gift-boxed bottles, RRP $18
