It gives me great pleasure to announce the release of our new season Extra Virgin Olive Oils -  Lakelands Olives is one of Australia’s most highly regarded biodynamic organic olive groves located in the cool elevated foothills of the NSW Central Ranges near Mudgee.

As you will be aware 2007 was a challenging year for both grape and olive growers – drought and frost played havoc in many districts, reducing yields substantially. Luckily, Mother Nature was relatively kind to the Rylstone district and our yields were only down by 20%. The worst frosts in mid-August 2006 affected our trees and the dramatically dwindling reserves in our large dam restricted our irrigation requirements.

However, the fruit quality and the resulting 2007 harvest Lakelands Olives Extra Virgin oils are consistent with our unique style – green-tinged golden oils displaying purity, flavour, intensity and complexity.

Both the single varietal Lakelands Olives Frantoio and Special Reserve blend were recently selected among the world’s top olive oils by the German gourmet magazine Der Feinschmecker. They competed against over 750 oils from every continent and were commended particularly for flavour, aroma, intensity and balance. Lakelands Olives Special Reserve also won 1^st Prize in the Australian section of the international Biol Prize, one of the world’s leading organic olive oil competitions held in Puglia, Italy and judged by an international jury.

 It’s my belief that Lakelands Olives oils derive their compelling intensity and balance from a combination of the terroir of our cool elevated grove planted at 700 meters, and the meticulous biodynamic and organic principles pursued by our dedicated team.
